Caught up with Project Life!

I finally sat down and worked on both months that I needed to catch up on to bring me back up to date with my PL album. I had had the photos sorted out for ages, then I finally sat down and edited the ones that needed to be printed as 3×4’s. I printed off the photos earlier this week, and after watching the cat walk all over them on my ‘desk’ this morning, I decided to get the layouts completed.

these are the march pages –

March documented my trip down to central Otago and the end of one craft project and the start of another.

April documents bits and pieces, things found the in the garage during a major sort out, craft progress and a first effort at home made pizza bases.

the picture on the top right was found in the garage and rescued. it used to hang in my grandparents toilet (having been framed by my grandfather) and was something I had forgotten about until it was found. it’s no longer in the garage!.

April was the first month were I felt I was a photo or 2 short for the spread, but it looks ok, so I’m not going to stress. there will be even less for May at this point, so I may have to do a month a side if there isn’t enough things to record!.

Feb Project Life pages

i was slightly behind in getting my Feb PL pages complete. i’ve had the photos processed, printed off and cut for a while, but just havent sat down and completed the page. this morning i did!. still a fairly basic spread, but at least i’m documenting life!.

feb documents still being in Australia, getting out some more home comforts, my cross stitch progress and a couple of events i went to here in CHCH.

i love the look on Lucy the dog’s face as my niece tickles her nose!.

hopefully i’ll get March’s pages completed sooner rather than later!.

Jan Project Life spread

i have finally committed my Jan Project Life page to its page protectors. all in all it took me about 2 hours to complete because i realised my photos weren’t 6×4 and 3×4 so i had to find cards for them to sit on.

i’m going to have to search for another photography programme that will help with the sizing. my go to template produced these, and the software that came with the printer doesnt seem to offer an option for those sizes!.

so this is the spread…..

i have preserved the privacy of all those photographed!.

my process worked all – i had the diary to refer to for things that happened through January, and i just drew a template in my notebook to help plan where to put everything. i didnt have to leave many things out, so one spread per month is about right for me at the moment.

i’m quite happy with the spread and now that i’m looking at it, i may not actually worry about the photo sizes – having them mounted looks ok.

in other crafty news – my fab xmas ornament is making slow progress, but should be stitched by the end of the month!. no more crochet completed yet, but now that the rugby season has started here, that may be my evening craft of choice!.

hope you’re all having fun making things!.

back home again.

i am now back home in NZ after a great 2 1/2wks in Australia, where i saw my niece start school. she loves it and wants to be first to the classroom each morning!. long may that enthusiasm continue.

i didn’t do a lot of sightseeing, choosing to enjoy the swimming pool and doing a little shopping.

i spent my time on the Gold Coast of Australia. as i was taking this shot, a bird was flying towards me. i thought it was a seagull and think to much more, until i thought it was too big to be a seagull!. by the time i realised it was a pelican, it was too late to get my camera ready. thankfully it landed above me on a lamppost, so i was able to photograph it.

where i spent a good chunk of every day. my niece and i had lots of fun playing, as well as me just floating in the sunshine. i managed to get a bit of a tan!.

the main reason for me visit. this is the morning of the first day with my niece having a final cuddle with her beloved dog Lucy before heading off.

we spent a great afternoon at a creative store, where we all painted items.

this is what i was working on. the final product is further down.

i really liked this art installation at Brisbane airport.

i went to IKEA and brought 4 of these dishes – they are glass bottomed and freezer and microwave safe. i’m intending to stop using plastic for food storage once i’m in my own space. while these have plastic lids, i can ultimately i will get rid of the lids and use tinfoil.

i was checking out the DVD store for something for my dad when i spied this – i loved series one in the UK but saw about 2 episodes of series 2, so brought it, and decided cos of the deal, i’d get series one as well, that way if my friends want to borrow it that can start at the beginning.

more from IKEA = i spied this duvet and pillow set in London and really wanted it but knew i had no room left in the suitcase so left it. when my sister said she wanted to go shopping there it was the first thing on my wishlist!

also from IKEA – 2 baking mats to reduce the need for baking paper.

opposite IKEA is a fabric store, so we popped in. i brought 2 lenghts of fabric only, it could have been much worse!.

as mentioned in my previous post, my vintage treasures from the local car boot sale.

late last year i participate in a swap and in the end my gift was sent to my sister, so i finally got to see what i got. included were these gorgeous salt and pepper shakers and pelican tea towel.

the final result of my creative afternoon. i need to get some more orange paint because it got a bit close to some still wet navy paint on the journey home.

my sister took me to the Kaisercraft store. i had to go lightly!!. i ended up with this organiser,

santas sleigh,

and some bits and pieces for Project Life.

from a stationary store, i thought these would be fun for PL as well.

a weekly planner that sticks to the fridge.

aboriginal art fabric purse. love the colours in this.

and finally some books. i’d been good until i got the the airport bookshop!. i brought 2 books during my stay and 3 at the airport!. i read ‘Firestorm’ in 24hrs, i just loved it.

so now its time to crack on with Project Life spreads.

stay tuned!.

gearing up for a crafty year!

i’m beginning to get into gear with this years crafty plans.

yesterday i took mum to Lincraft, a large Aussie (i think) craft store with bits and bobs for most crafty pastimes. i was kinda hoping they might have some PL stuff given its popularity nowadays, and just when i was about to give up i found a stand. i was after page protectors, and managed to get what i wanted. i just got one pack of 12 for now – which should be plenty given i am only aiming for a monthly spread. they were a lot cheaper than the recognised brands and seem ok to me. i havent had to cut any cards to fit. i didnt get an album as i have an empty AC album in my boxes which i hope these page protectors fit – another reason i only got one pack!. i’m recording things each day in the diary, indicating if i took a photo to go with it. i’ve set up a folder for PL photos on my laptop, and so far i’m sticking to the plan. when i take photos off the camera, i process the ones for the blog, and shift the ones for PL.

so here is the title page now in its page and tucked back in the packaging for safe keeping.

across the way from Lincraft was a yarn store, so i also popped in there and spied these 5 colours side by side and it hit me straight away that these colours should be for my next crochet blanket. so i brought 2 of each colour other than white, which i got 3 of as i plan on having white as the outer edge or joining colour so will need more. i checked with the sales assistant and its a brand they always have so i can stock up easily when i need to once the blanket progresses. i think i have finalised the pattern, and because i’m only using those 5 colours, it will be a square or hexagon rather than a stripe or wave. i’ll do that next time!!.

i have also begun the stitching on the first months xmas ornament. i’m planing on stitching one ornament a month so i can one day have a dedicated xstitch tree.

this is a freebie from Diane of Little House Needleworks. i only have a few snowflakes and flurries to do and its finished.  then it will need to be made up into an ornament to hang from a tree. its such a cutie.

i havent done any stitching on the neighbourhood so far this year, but hopefully i’ll get back into it at the weekend. i’m heading to Australia for 2  1/2wks and will be taking it with me so i’m hoping i can get a good chunk done there between dips in the pool!!.

so, there you have it – the plans for the year on the craft front. wonder how long i’ll keep it going!!.

Project Life Title page

last night i sat and had a play with paper bits and came up with a title page for PL which i’m starting later this week!. this is how it looks for now, but it may change by the time i get the page protectors!. i dont have alot of stuff available to use at present, just what i brought in the UK in the 6mths between sending my belongings home and me heading back. so thats 6×6 pads, stamps, washi tape, a few word embellies, enamel dots and some wood veneer embellies. that lot will have to do until i am able to unpack properly.

it comprises 3 ready made cards, 2 patterned papers cut to size, 2 home made filler cards and a map of inner city Christchurch.

below is my craft space for now!. some of you may recognise the table – its the Lakeland fold away table a few of use brought around the time Scrapmates went to Canterbury ( UK ) for the weekend. it had to come back with me as its so useful and folds away easily!.

i am planning on doing a monthly spread for project life so i may not have much to share until Feb!. there is alot on in Jan so who knows, i might do a fortnightly spread, i’ll see how it goes.

i plan to record the days events in a diary, indicating where i’ve taken photos, so i can remember everything come time to make the spread. we’ll see how long it lasts!.

first Project Life make.

tonight i finally had a little play with some of my new ‘toys’ for my impending launch into the world of Project Life memory keeping.

i made one 3×4 card!!!. this is pretty good for me being as i haven’t done any paper crafting this year!.

made on some white paper rather than cardstock. this is because the 3×4 punch by We Are Memory Keepers doesnt seem to want to cut thru cardstock. no problems with paper, but cardstock = nope!. i’m going to try sharpening it with tin foil and see if that helps any, otherwise it might have just become a huge waste of money!.

so, for this card i used some Ali Edwards Technique Tuesday stamps, washi tape, a wood veneer arrow and a red pen to provide a border.

overall i’m pretty pleased with this and will use it on my title page, that i beginning to think about now, especially as Jan is only a few weeks away!.

hopefully i can solve the punch issue and get my hands on a paper trimmer – either mine from my boxes, or buy a new one and then i can get cutting and making!.
